If you announce that everyone will participate in intervision (or even that everyone will be invited to participate), expect some anxiety, because many teachers equate classroom visits with performance evaluation and feedback with judgment. You can use this opportunity to distinguish supervision from intervision, and judgmental feedback—praise, criticism, and suggestions—from the nonjudgmental feedback they'll give one another.

Some teachers might ask what's wrong with praise. Praise makes people feel good, and teachers don't get enough appreciation. You can explain that colleagues are always welcome to praise and appreciate one another. However, this PD activity leaves all forms of judgment out—so everyone stays on equal footing and so all teachers can decide for themselves whether and how they want to change, based on hearing someone else's experience of their work.
